Treva V. Abel, age 96, a resident of Persimmon Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Portland, Indiana, died Thursday afternoon at the care facility.
She was a former resident of 628 East Main Street in Portland and had lived for many years on a farm in Madison Township. She attended the Pleasant Hill Church on the Jay/Randolph County line where she was a member of the Lady’s Aide Society. She was also a member of the Widow to Widow Club.
Treva Abel was born October 28, 1911 in Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson & Hannah Alice (Conklin) Mays. She graduated from Madison Township High School with the Class of 1929. She was married December 9, 1933 to Glenn Abel. He died March 19, 1968.
Mrs. Abel is survived by: 2 daughters: Mrs. Alice Paxson (husband Larry)- Rural Portland, Indiana Mrs. Charlotte Chadwick (husband Dave)- Portland, Indiana 5 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren
Funeral services for Treva V. Abel were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Clevenger will officiate burial followed in the Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana. Friends may call at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to service time on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the State of the Heart Family Hospice.
Dear Alice and Charlotte: Please accept our sympathy on the death of your mother. She certainly had a long and active life. I remember her well. Good memories from Ft. Recovery too. I hope you are both well. I am with the Welcome Center at Richmond if you are ever down this way. Regards..Jim Resh
