Funeral Services for John W. Slocum PDF Print E-mail
Active ImageJohn William Slocum, age 78, a resident of rural Ridgeville, died Saturday at his residence, following an extended illness.  

John served in the NAVY from 1947 until 1950, and then he worked for 18 years in Chicago, until he moved to Ridgeville, where he worked for 18 years until he retired in 1992 from Union City Body Company.  In 1968 he started the Slocum Plumbing and Heating which he owned and operated for many years.  He was a member of the Ridgeville American Legion and the Portland Eagles Club.

    John William Slocum was born June 22 1930, in Weiner, Arkansas, the son of June and Viola (Schnell) Slocum.  He married Virginia Bernice Nixon on March 29, 1954 and she preceded him in death on May 12, 1998.

    Survivors include two sons, William “Bill” Slocum (wife Jill), rural Ridgeville, IN and John Wesley Slocum (wife Michele), Rural Ridgeville, IN; two daughters, Joy Baker (husband Art), Dandridge, TN and Vickie Johnson, Winchester, IN.
                    
    Funeral services for John Slocum will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.  Pastor Jonathan Edwards will officiate and burial will follow in the Lawndale Cemetery, East of Ridgeville, Indiana.  The Ridgeville American Legion will handle the military rites. 

    Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.
