Arlo L. Kaufman, 78 of Rural Portland in Madison Township, Jay County passed away on Friday afternoon, July 10, 2009 at his residence.

Arlo was born on March 17, 1931 in Jackson Township in Randolph County, Indiana the son of Fred and Inez (Shawver) Kaufman.  Arlo graduated from Jackson Township High School of Randolph County in 1949.  He worked at Overmyer Mold in Winchester for 20 years and also farmed in Madison Township.  He was a member of Praise Chapel Church of God, where he was a trustee and Sunday School teacher for many years.  He married Barbara Woodward on June 10, 1951.  She preceded him in death on February 21, 1997.  He then married Carolyn Johnson on September 4, 1998.  Arlo is survived by: His Wife: Carolyn Kaufman – Rural Portland, Indiana, His Sons: Michael L. Kaufman (wife Rheta) – Madison Township, Jay County, Indiana, Fredrick C. Kaufman (wife Tonnie) – Albany, Indiana, His Step Daughter: Donna Duff (Husband Tom - Troy, Michigan, His Sister: Marilyn A. Moody – Winchester, Indiana, His Brother: Dale Kaufman (wife Alice) – Union City, Indiana, 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.  He was also predeceased by his son Timothy Kaufman. Services for Arlo L. Kaufman will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Portland Chapel of Williamson and Spencer Funeral Homes.  A visitation will be from 3-7 PM on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the funeral home.  Reverand Michael Roach will be officiating the service with burial to follow at New Pittsburg Cemetery on the Jay/Randolph County line.  Memorial may be directed to the State of the Heart Hospice, with envelopes available at the Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be sent to www.williamsonspencer.com

Arlo truly was a wonderful person. His values can be seen daily in those that he loved. I see them in Fred\'s and my son, Kris, and our daughters, Krista and Karla. All who loved him very much.  
 
Fred and Michael, I share your pain. I truly know your loss. He will be missed for a long time.  
 
My deepest sympathy to his family.
