 Bertha O. Hummer, 93, of rural Portland, Indiana passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
Bertha was born on October 6, 1916 in Jay County, Indiana the daughter of Curtis and Della (Green) Benn. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ, she was a 4H Leader and a Loving Mother and Grandmother. She volunteered for the Jay County Hospital Auxiliary and also helped her husband farm in Wayne and Noble Township for many years. She married Everett Hummer on November 28, 1931, he passed away in 1993. Survivors include: 3 Daughters: Barbara J. Loy – Tampa, FL Nancy E. Valentine (husband John) – Rural Portland, IN Diana S. Farthing (husband Kent) – Huntington, IN 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren She was also preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Hummer in 1964. Funeral services for Bertha Hummer will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. Flint Redwine will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery, Portland, Indiana. Visitation for Bertha Hummer will be held on Friday from 3-7 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Community Center.
