Morrical, age 96, a former resident of West North Street in Portland and a current resident of Crown Pointe in Portland for the past 2 years passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Persimmon Ridge in Portland. Lena was born on September 20, 1913, in Green Township, Jay County, the daughter of Ray and Opal (Wood) Bowen.  She graduated from Portland High School in 1931 and then attended Indiana Central College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1935.  She then earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University in 1971.  Lena taught at Green Township Union School from 1936-1940, Redkey Elementary from 1940-1943, Indianapolis Public Schools from 1943 – 1945 and Judge Haynes Elementary from 1965-1979.  She was a member of the West Walnut Street Church of Christ where she was involved with many activities.  Other memberships include the Jay County Historical Society, Jay County Retired Teachers Association and the Noble Busy Bee’s Home Economics Club.   Lena married Glen R. Morrical on February 20, 1946 and he passed away on March 26, 1985.  

Survivors include:

1 son:  Eldon Morrical (wife Sylvia) – rural Portland, Indiana

2 daughters:  Reita Jones (husband Don) – Frankfort, Kentucky
              Joyce Morrical – Portland, Indiana

1 sister:  Virginia Bowen – Florence, Montana  

2 brothers:  Carl Bowen – rural Portland, Indiana
                    Roger C. Bowen – rural Portland, Indiana

4 granddaughters and 6 great grandchildren

    Funeral services for Lena Morrical will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland.  Greg Bowen and Pastor Jim Nichols will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.

    Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday December 22, 2009, in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.  There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.  

    Memorials may be directed towards the West Walnut Street Church of Christ Memorial Fund.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
