Thurl Dean Bailey, 72 of Union City, Indiana passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 17, 2010, at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana following a brief illness. He was a former Portland resident.
Thurl Dean was born on June 2, 1937, in Wayne Township, Jay County, Indiana, the son of Ora and Rebekah (Snyder) Bailey. He graduated from Portland High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked at Sheller Globe in Portland for over 25 years. He was also a self-employed appliance repairman for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #211 of Portland. He was married to Susanne Wirkner on May 5, 1962. He then married Gloria Bond on November 23, 1990. Survivors include:His wife of 19 years: Gloria Bailey – rural Union City, Indiana 2 daughters: Tina Terhar (husband Kurt) – Cincinnati, Ohio Tami Mikesell – Union City, Indiana 1 son: Todd Bailey (wife Cyndy) - Carmel, Indiana 2 step-daughters: Kim Couch – Union City, Indiana Teresa Jones (husband Albert Jr.) – Geneva, Indiana 4 brothers: Daryl E. Bailey (wife Mona) – Beaver Dam, Wisconsin Fredric L. Bailey (wife Elizabeth) – Portland, Indiana Jerry M. Bailey (wife Darlene) – Berne, Indiana Jim J. Bailey – Fort Wayne, Indiana 4 sisters: Vera Joan Newcomb – Urbana, Illinois Virginia R. Gamsby (husband George) – Ossian, Indiana Diana L. Centofanti (husband Achille) – Berlin Center, Ohio Carolyn S. Bailey – Fort Wayne, Indiana 7 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren Visitation for Thurl Dean Bailey will be held on Saturday from 2-7 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. Funeral services for Thurl Dean Bailey will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. Pastor Flint Redwine will officiate and burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana. The American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct military graveside rites. Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Heart Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. |
