Page 1 of 2 Melvin L. Hart, age 81, a resident of rural Portland, Indiana passed away on Sunday Morning, May 9, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana
Melvin was born on August 11, 1928 in Portland, Indiana the son of Thomas and Gladys (Hudson) Hart. He graduated from the Geneva High school in 1946 and then married Anna Mae Cline on June 20, 1948. She predeceased him in 1999. He retired from the Big Wheel in Portland and also spent most of his life farming in the Randolph, Adams and Jay County. He enjoyed horse shoe pitching, church softball leagues, wood working, bowling and pulling practical jokes on his family and friends. Survivors include: 5 Daughters: Peggy A. McKnight (husband Ben) – Winchester, Indiana Sally Starr (husband Marvin) – Portland, Indiana Cindy Sparks – Portland, Indiana Nancy Hawley – Winchester, Indiana Tracy Sharfman (husband Marc) – Marion, Indiana 2 Sons: Randy Hart (wife Donna) – Winchester, Indiana Tony A. Hart (wife Blair) – Lynn, Indiana 1 Brother: Marvin Hart – Geneva, Indiana 1 Sister: Freda Baughman (husband Jerry) – Portland, Indiana 24 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife and one son: Kerry Hart Visitation for Melvin Hart will be held from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Reverend Darrell Borders officiating. Burial to follow at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, east of Geneva, Indiana.
