Morris D. Ashcraft, 89, of Midland, Michigan and former resident of Portland, Indiana passed away on Sunday night, January 10, 2010 in Midland, Michigan. Morris was born on March 4, 1920 in Jay County, Indiana the son of John and Orpha (Money) Ashcraft. He graduated from the Portland High School in 1939 and served in the US Air force from 1941-1945. Morris then married Helen Green on April 29, 1945 and they lived in Portland from 1946 to 1953. They lived in Fort Wayne from 1953 to 1958, and then they moved to Detroit where he worked for Daimler Chrysler as a District Service and Sales Manager until 1975. Morris is survived by; His Wife: Helen I. Ashcraft – Midland, MI, His Son: Stanley Ashcraft (wife Donna) – Clinton Township, MI, His Daughter: Wilma Artalee Barnes – Midland, MI, Six Grandchildren , Two Great Grandsons and One Great-Great Grand daughter.Military Graveside services provided by the American Legion Post #211 for Morris Ashcraft will be 2:30 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Springhill Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Ohio. No Services will be held in Midland, Michigan. Memorial may be directed to the Museum of the Soldier Inc. 510 East Arch Street, Portland, IN 47371.
