Alletta "Marie" Wrightsman

April 18, 1927 ~ September 18, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

     Alletta “Marie” Wrightsman, age 90 passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Miller's Merry Manor in Hartford City.  She passed away peacefully while sleeping to awake in the arms of Jesus.  She was a resident of Jackson Township in Blackford County and a former resident of Jay County.  She was currently at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hartford City for the last 5 years.  The staff took excellent care of Marie and she felt their love and loved all the staff and friends. 

    Marie was born on April 18, 1927 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Harvey Sr. and Hattie (Isenhart)Thornton.  She graduated from Madison Township High School in Jay County in 1945.  She married Charles “Bob” Robert Wrightsman on December 24, 1947 and he passed away on December 10, 2008.

     Marie worked at Jackson Elementary School as a cook.  She served as a clerk for the Hartford City BMV, Federal Farm Service Agency in Blackford County and the Blackford County Hospital.  She also served as the Jackson Township Trustee in Blackford County.  She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School for children who were 2-5 years old.  She also taught vacation bible school for 25 years.  She was a member of the Ladies Aid circle for 40 years.  She and her husband were 4-H leaders in Blackford County where they were involved with the Jackson Township Lads and Lassies Club for 40 years. 

     Marie was caring, loving and helpful to all.  She enjoyed seeing things grow in her garden and the animals she raised.  She enjoyed planting her garden, weeding and sharing her harvest with her family and friends.

1 son:  Bill Wrightsman (companion Linda) – Dunkirk, Indiana

2 daughters:  Diana Marie Smith (husband Dan) – Bluffton, Indiana

                      Nancy Chism – Anacortes, Washington

Son-in-law:  George Smith – Waverly, Ohio

1 brother:  Harvey Thornton, Jr. (wife Mary Kay) – Portland, Indiana

1 sister:  Barbara Thornton – Marion, Indiana

1 granddaughter:  Melissa Marie Wass (husband Jeff) – Union, Ohio

6 grandsons:  Travis Smith – Bluffton, Indiana

                       Dustin Smith (companion Melissa Hatfield) – Berne, Indiana

                       Landon Smith (wife Kate) – Stephens Point, Wisconsin

                       Rob Smith – Waverly, Ohio

                       Kevin Smith (companion Stephanie Arentz) – Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

                       Lucas Chism – Anacortes, Washington

Granddaughter-in-law:  Erica Wrightsman – Muncie, Indiana

Great Grandchildren:

Austin Wass (wife Aubree) – Marion, Indiana

Garrett Wass – Lafayette, Indiana

Ruthanne Marie, Seth and Hannah Wass - Union, Ohio

Finleigh “Finn” Smith – Middleburg, Florida

Andrew, Jacob and Olivia “Livi” Smith – Berne, Indiana

Emmalee “Emmy” Smith, Rebecka “Becka, Mikayla “Kayla” Marie, Leeah and Ruger Smith  – Stephens Point, Wisconsin

Great Grandchildren:

Gavyn and Ashlynn Paige Marie Wass – Marion, Indiana

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Sr. and Hattie Thornton, her husband Charles Robert “Bob” Wrightsman, her daughter Sandra “Sandy” Smith and a grandson Justin Wrightsman. 

     Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. 

     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00pm in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Randy Davis will officiate and burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. 

     Memorials may be directed to the Bethel United Methodist Church.
