Arthur “Art” Hall, Jr., age 95, a resident of Portland, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017, at University Nursing Center in Upland, Indiana. 

           

            Arthur was born on October 29, 1921, in Lafayette, Indiana the son of Arthur Hall, Sr. and Gladys Merle (Hufford) Hall.  He graduated from Muncie Central High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II.  Arthur married Wanda Cecil on June 17, 1951. 

 

            Arthur worked for Indiana Bridge in Muncie and was a salesman for Moorman’s Livestock Feed.  He retired from Marsh Supermarkets in Portland.  Arthur was a volunteer for the Portland Fire Department for over 20 years and a reserve for the Portland Police Department.  He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he was affectionately known as Mr. Pickle because of his volunteerism selling pickles for the youth fundraiser for many years.  He was a member of the Portland Morning Optimist where he had 40 years perfect attendance and served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of the club.  He was also a member of the Portland American Legion Post #211, VFW in Salamonia, Methodist Men’s, Museum of the Soldier and the Jay County Historical Society.  He was awarded the Lifetime achievement award from the Cincinnatus League of Portland and served as a torch bearer for the Indiana Bicentennial.   He was awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Hoosier Hospitality award in 2008 for exceeding the call of duty in Indiana Tourism. 

 

Survivors include:

His wife of 66 years: Wanda Hall – Portland, Indiana

1 daughter:  Bonita Frazee (husband Rob) – Portland, Indiana

5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Hall in 2007. 

            Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.  Pastor Darrell Borders will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.  The American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct military graveside rites. 

            Memorials may be directed towards the Museum of the Soldier in Portland.
