Jerry Adams

     Jerry Adams, age 79 a resident of Portland passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at his home in Portland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Jerry worked for the Portland Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and retired from Ohio Valley Gas Co. in Portland and the Jay County Retirement Center.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.    He was a member of the Portland American Legion Post #211 where he served on the Honor Guard.

     Jerry Adams was born July 2, 1936 in Albany, Indiana the son of Milton and Eva (Coons) Adams.  He was married on May 7, 1955 to Beatrice Atkinson.

Survivors Include:

His beloved wife- Bea Adams, Portland, Indiana

2 Sons- Rusty Adams (wife Theresa), Crawfordsville, Indiana

              Jo Adams (wife Sharon), Brainerd, Minnesota

1 Daughter- Helene Hartzell (husband Jerry), Portland, Indiana

1 Brother- Karl Adams, Muncie, Indiana

7 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, 5 Step Grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Eva Adams, a brother, Jack Richard Adams, a sister Elaine White and a step grandchild, Nathaniel Adair

     Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. 

    Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Larry Eads and Pastor Gordon Jackson will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Portland American Legion Post 211.

            Memorials may be directed towards the American Legion Post #211 of Portland.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
