John David McFarland Jr, age 73, a resident of Pennville, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at his home in Pennville. John graduated from Portland high school in 1961. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and severed two tours in Vietnam. He worked at Ohio Valley Gas in Portland and Bluffton Rubber Company for many years.

John was born September 26, 1943 in Portland, Indiana the son of John and Edith (Hoffman) McFarland. He was married November 12, 1971 to Karen Platt.

Survivors include:

His beloved wife- Karen McFarland – Dunkirk, Indiana

1 daughter:  Shawna Michel (husband Michael) – Bluffton, Indiana

1 step-son- Kevin Taylor - Pennville

2 step-daughters- Twila Wimmer - Bluffton, Indiana

                             Yvonna Cable - Montpelier, Indiana

1 brother- Michael McFarland (wife Priscilla) - Portland, Indiana

Along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. service at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Pennville.

Funeral services are Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Pennville. Pastor Darrell Borders will officiate the service with burial will follow at a later in the I.O.O.F. Twin Hills cemetery in Pennville.

 Portland American Legion Post 211 will conduct military graveside rites at the cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospital.
