Carl Corwin, 65, a lifelong resident of rural Portland, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018.
Carl was born on March 7, 1953 in Portland, Indiana the son of Cornelius “Corky” and Mary Rose (Pfeifer) Corwin. He graduated from Pennville High School in 1971. On June 17, 1972 he married the love of his life and spent the next 45 years living their life together to the fullest in every form.
Carl retired from Marsh Supermarkets after 35 years and went on to be self employed to where he retired from that in 2012. He was an avid and lifelong farmer and enjoyed watching as his son followed in his footsteps. Carl was a loving, kind and generous man who was a hard worker and would give the shirt off his back for any of his friends and neighbors, but the real joy of his life was family. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and planning play dates so he could be surrounded by them.
Carl was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #145, Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association and the Sons of the American Legion in Pennville.
In addition to his wife Karla, he is survived by his children KaTura Bishop (husband Scott), Hartford City, Terence Corwin (wife Ashley), Portland, and six grandchildren who were the light of his world. His one sister Elaine Bickel, Portland, four brothers John Corwin (wife Kathy), Pennville, Neal Corwin (wife Freda), Bryant, Phil Corwin, Portland, Bob Corwin (wife Martha), Dayton, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cornelius and Mary Rose Corwin, brother Thomas Corwin, and son Travis Corwin.
The family will be celebrating his life with a brief service on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Corwin Residence, 8031 W. State Road 26. Afterwards friends and neighbors are invited to visit with the family and remember all the wonderful stories of this very honorable, loving and generous soul until 5 p.m.
