Donna Dale

Donna I. Dale, age 100, a resident of Portland, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Jay County Hospital in Portland, Indiana.

            Donna was born January 7, 1917, in Morrow County, Ohio, the daughter of Earl T. and Pansy A. (Patten) Newcommer. She was a member of Stitch and Chatter Quilt Club and the Plant, Hoe, and Hope Garden Club in Portland, Indiana. She owned and operated Cardington Party Store in Cardington, Ohio and the Crystal Ice and Locker in Mt. Gilead, Ohio.  Donna married O.J. Shaffer November 2, 1935, O.J. passed away in 1978. She then married Walter L. Dale on March 17, 1982, Walter passed away on September 13, 2005.

Survivors include:

1 Daughter: Leona Benedict (husband Ernest) – Portland, Indiana

1 Son: Joel Shaffer (wife Dolores) – Schoolcraft, Michigan

5 Grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren, 14 Great- Grandchildren

            Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12 – 1 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Darrel Borders will officiate the service. Burial will be Monday, July 3, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Cardington, Ohio.

            Memorials may be directed towards the Asbury United Methodist Church.
