Freda Baughman

Freda Baughman, age 90, a resident of Portland, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Jay County Hospital in Portland.

     Freda was born on July 1, 1926, in Jay County, the daughter of Thomas and Gladys (Hudson) Hart.  She graduated from Poling High School in 1944.  Freda worked for NAAS Foods in Portland, CTS in Berne and Jay Garment in Portland.  She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Portland, a charter member of the Jay County Historical Society and a member of the Jay County Hospital Auxiliary.  She was the last surviving charter member of the Jay County Historical Society.  Freda married Jerry Baughman on September 1, 1946 and he passed away on July 5, 2015. 

     Survivors include:

     3 daughters:  Pamela Gillett (husband Jim) – New Palestine, Indiana   

                           Margie DeVoss – Indianapolis, Indiana

                           Claudia Jones (husband Richard) – Portland, Indiana

     1 nephew:  Richard Baughman (wife Rosa) – Naples, Italy

     5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson

     Visitation will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Pastor Sharon Taylor will officiate and burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, west of Bryant. 

     Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Historical Society.
