Max R. McClurg, age 94 a resident of Portland passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Persimmon Ridge Rehabilitation Centre.
Max McClurg was born March 17, 1923 in Huntington County, Indiana the son of Jesse and Zola (Day) McClurg. He married Bernice Stoner on March 9, 1952. He was a 1941 graduate of Rockcreek High School in Huntington County, Indiana and attended Ball State Teachers College and Purdue University. He was a member and Deacon of the West Walnut St. Church of Christ in Portland and a 60-year member and past President of the Portland Kiwanis Club. He owned and operated McClurg’s Hardware in Portland for over 40 years.

His wife of 65 years- Bernice McClurg, Portland, Indiana
3 Daughters- Karen Landess (husband-Mike), Portland, Indiana
Kathy Heckaman (husband-Lynn), West Lafayette, Indiana
Kay Sodders (husband-Brad), Baltimore, Ohio
He was blessed with 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy McClurg, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Gil Alicea will officiate and burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Portland American Legion Post 211 will conduct military graveside rites.
