Mike Wendel

Mike P. Wendel, age 75, a resident of Berne, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at IU Health Jay Hospital in Portland.  He was a former Portland resident.

Mike was born on September 12, 1943 in Portland, the son of Serphin “Turk” and Virginia Olive (Snyder) Wendel.  He graduated from Portland High School in 1961.  Mike married Barbara Ann Hanke on March 31, 1973 and she passed away on February 28, 2016.

Mike worked for Dunbar Furniture in Berne, Armstrong Mold in Winchester and retired from Jay School Corporation as a custodian.  He was a member of the Collett Church of the Nazarene.  Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren at Tippy and Lake Pleasant.  Mike was an avid IU Athletics fan and could always  be found during the summer at the Berne Public Pool.

Survivors include:

3 sons:  Michael Brandon Wendel (wife Shenelle) – Portland, Indiana

Charles E. Wendel (wife Sarina) – Portland, Indiana

Justin A. Wendel (wife Brenda) – Berne, Indiana

1 daughter:  Alisa A. Blount (husband Ryan) – Portland, Indiana

1 brother:  Charles A. Wendel – Carmel, Indiana

13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Kay DeLauter.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 - 8 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Billy Stanton will officiate and burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
