Alexus Gierhart, age 20 a Portland resident passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 in Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was a member of the Hickory Grove Church of the Brethren in Jay County. She was a 2013 graduate of Jay County High School where she was very active on the Lady Patriot’s softball team. She was also active with several area softball teams after graduating. She had attended Ivy Tech for the past 2 years and was a member of the Honor Society. She was recently accepted to Ball State University to complete her degree in Elementary Education. She also worked at Portland Pizza Hut and also was a substitute teacher with the Jay School Corporation.
Alexus was born August 25, 1994 in Bluffton, Indiana the daughter of Rich and Julie (DeHoff) Gierhart.

2 Sisters- Shelby Gierhart, Markle, Indiana
Catera Gierhart, Portland, Indiana
2 Step Sisters- Gabriell and Isabelle Minnich, Portland, Indiana
Her father and step mother- Rich and Tisha Gierhart, Portland, Indiana
Her Grandparents- Tony and Shirley DeHoff, Portland, Indiana and Richard and Carolyn Gierhart, Muncie, Indiana
Her mother- Julie DeHoff preceded her in death
Visitation will be held from 11am-7pm Friday in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday in the Redkey United Methodist Church, 122 W. Main St. Redkey, Indiana. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Pastor Earl Doll will officiate the services and burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, west of Portland.
Memorials may be directed to Carter Poore in care of Rich Gierhart to establish a college trust fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
