Alice Whitacre

Alice Whitacre, age 72, a resident of Portland, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.

Alice was born October 7, 1951, in Jay County, the daughter of Ralph and Catherine (Heniscey) Bennett.  Alice worked for Marsh and Lobills in Portland and was also a manager for Heather Park Apartments in Portland.  Alice loved playing bingo, reading, coloring, crocheting, and she deeply loved her family and loved to help anyone in need.  Alice attended The Rock Church. She married William Whitacre on September 7, 1968 and he passed away in 2010.

Survivors include:

Her daughter: Tonya Whitacre – Portland, Indiana

Her son: Michael Whitacre – Fort Wayne, Indiana

Her sister: Becci Green (husband Gail) – Portland, Indiana

4 grandchildren:  Stasha Whitacre, Tianna Watson, Dyllon Whitacre and Megan France

10 great-grandchildren:  Savanna Whitacre, Michael Sell, Brooklyn Sell, Jaylynn Bragg, Chase Bragg, Joshua Norris, Macie Norris, Oaklen Norris, Addi Ward and Brinley Ward.

Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Whitacre; her parents Ralph and Catherine Bennet; her son Joseph Whitacre and a sister, Carol Showalter.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 4pm – 7pm at the Williamson Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland, and services will follow at 7pm at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at a later date at Wells Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Jay County Cancer Society.
