Barbara Schmittou-Pittman

Barbara Schmittou-Pittman, age 86, a resident of rural Union City in Jay County passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022.

Barbara was born on September 8, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the daughter of Ernest J.R. and Lucy Lee (Moats) Gaston.  She worked as a 911 operator in Springfield, Tennessee for many years.  She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church in Springfield, Tennessee.  She married Euel Pittman on April 3, 1999 and he passed away on December 6, 2010.

Daughter:  Cindy Del Stephens – Dickson County, Tennessee

Siblings:  Charlotte Smith (husband Charles) – Greenwood, Indiana

Naomi Kramer (husband Doug) – Eaton, Ohio

Brenda Fennig (husband Michael) – Union City, Indiana

Howard Gaston – Portland, Indiana

5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral services will follow on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Mt. Sharon Cemetery in Springfield, Tennessee.
