Barbara "Ramona" Gordon

Barbara “Ramona” Gordon, age 82, a resident of rural Redkey, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Barbara was born on February 3, 1940 in Portland, the daughter of Carlton and Barbara Pauline (Carmichael) Smelser.  She was raised by Blanch and Edna Chalfant.  Barbara graduated from Gray High School in 1958 and married Robert Gordon on October 18, 1958.  She and her husband were long time farmers in Richland and Jefferson Township. She was a member of the Redkey Town and County Home Ec. Club and enjoyed making and decorating cakes.

Survivors include:

Her husband of 63 years:  Robert Gordon – rural Redkey, Indiana

3 daughters:  Lou Ann Zimmerman (husband Ron) – rural Redkey, Indiana

Kay Haffner (husband Mike) – rural Ridgeville, Indiana

Melissa Lawson (husband Eddie) – New Paris, Ohio

1 sister:  Janet Shipp (husband Dennis) – Nashville, Tennessee

2 brothers:  Dick Smelser (wife Betty) – Fairmount, Indiana

Joe Smelser (wife Lisa) – Pendleton, Indiana

Sister-in-law:  Sarah Smelser – Ossian, Indiana

6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Smelser, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Pastor Scott Turner will officiate and burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery, south of Redkey.

Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Heart Fund.
