Cheryl Susann Dixon

Cheryl Susann Dixon, 75, a resident of Portland, Indiana passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Cheryl was born on April 20, 1946, in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of John and Mable Lucille (Taflinger) Elwood.  Cheryl retired from being a daycare provider in Iowa City, Iowa.  She enjoyed making quilts and crocheting special gifts for her family and friends.  She was her happiest when surrounded by her family. She married Fred Dixon on June 6, 1964.

She is survived by:

Her husband of 57 years:  Fred Dixon – Portland, Indiana

Children:  April Masonbrink (husband Mark) – Geneva, Indiana

Fred Dixon, Jr. – Portland, Indiana

Bridget Abalos (husband Frank) – Iowa City, Iowa

Bryan Dixon (wife Buffi) – Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Brooke Dixon – Atlanta, Georgia

2 brothers:  James “Jim Bob” Elwood (wife Marcia) – Louisville, Tennessee

Anthony Elwood (wife Corinna) – Portland, Indiana

And 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren

Preceded in death by her sister Diane Smith and two brothers, John David Elwood and William Bill Elwood.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Services to celebrate Cheryl’s life will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.  Pastor Gil Alicea will officiate the service and burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
