Cletus L. Moore

Cletus L. Moore, age 92, a resident of Portland, Indiana, passed away Monday, April 06, 2015, at Persimmon Ridge Rehab Center in Portland.

Cletus was born on February 22, 1923, in Darke County, Ohio, the son of Albert and Orpha (Money) Moore.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1941 to 1946; returning from the war to farm and have a long career with Sheller Globe before retiring in 1982.  Cletus enjoyed outdoor activities and was a shooting and firearm restoration enthusiast.

He was married to Waveline Johnson for 65 years before her passing in August, 2009.  Cletus and Waveline dedicated their lives to their daughter Judy and were founding members of what became Jay Randolph Developmental Services (JRDS).  He was a member of the Portland Evangelical Methodist Church along with being a devoted lay minister providing spiritual needs to many.

Cletus is survived by his daughter Judy Moore (Portland) along with nephews Richard (Patricia) Moore, Ronald Hercamp and Joe Al Hercamp; nieces Wanda Burke, Phyllis Barga, and Pamela Snyder, Donna Jo Hercamp and many extended family members.  Nephew, Jerry A. Moore, and nieces Ilene VanDeGrift and Irene Whittaker preceded Cletus in death.

Special acknowledgement goes to Lena McShane’s dedication to Cletus and Judy along with devoted friends Ralph and Karen Guingrich, Anita Frasher, and the staff at Persimmon Ridge.

Funeral services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Herb Hummel officiating at Williamson-Spencer Funeral Home, Portland, IN.  Burial will follow at Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, IN.  Friends and relatives may call from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  The American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct Military Graveside Rites.
