David S. Valentine, age 84, a resident of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at his home in Portland.

David was born October 23, 1941, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Marion and Thelma (Grile) Valentine. He graduated from Portland High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Arcturus. David worked at the Portland Forge for 38 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland and American Legion Post #211 of Portland. David married Rosemary Bye on March 6, 1976.

His wife of 50 years: Rosemary Valentine – Portland, Indiana

Children: Mike Clutter (wife Michelle) – Clarksville, Indiana

Michelle Nally (husband Shawn) – Portland, Indiana

Brian Clutter (wife Tova) – Berne, Indiana

Jenny Greene (husband Stuart) – Portland, Indiana

Sister: Ellen Caupp (husband Phil) – Portland, Indiana

Grandchildren: Noah Brown, Kyler Nally, Austin Nally, Josh Martin, Skyler Storm, Morgan Clutter, Gavin Greene and Cheyenne Greene.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brandon and Katelyn Clutter, and a sister, Alice Valentine.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Pastor Hugh Kelly will officiate and burial will follow at Green Park Cemetery in Portland. American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct military graveside rites.
