Faye (Evans) Williamson, a cherished soul whose warm smile and infectious laughter brightened the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 9, 1940, in Portland, Indiana, Faye was the daughter of Wilson and Elsie Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear siblings, Harold, Georgia (Steed), Earl, and Rose (Ullom). Her beloved remaining siblings, twin sister Kay (Beck) and brother Gary Evans, completed the tight family bond.
Faye's life was a testament to love, commitment, and dedication to her family. She shared over 65 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Darrel, whom she married on October 30, 1960, in their hometown of Portland, Indiana. Together, they built a life rich with family, laughter, and countless memories. Faye's legacy lives on through her children, Denise (Coulis), Rick, and Mike, as well as her eight grandchildren and one great-grandson, who will all carry forward the lessons of love and joy she imparted.
A graduate of Gray High School in 1958, Faye dedicated herself to nurturing young minds, working in the school system at Jay County High School and Winchester Community High School. Her commitment to education and community was further reflected in her involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution, local garden club and homemakers club, and her volunteer work at the Jay County Historical Society.
Faye was a woman of many talents and passions. Her creative spirit shone brightly in her many crafts, from painting and knitting to basket making and cooking. Known for her delicious pies and lasagna, she delighted in preparing meals that brought her family together. Faye also had a love for the outdoors, finding joy in gardening, landscaping, and fishing—often out-fishing everyone else with her skill and determination.
Her family and friends will remember Faye for her joyful spirit, her love of card games, and the warmth she brought to every gathering. Her easy laugh and genuine friendships left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A service to celebrate Faye's remarkable life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 29 at Williamson- Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home, located at 208 N Commerce St., Portland, Indiana. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 28 3:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Jay County Historical Society, Portland Foundation, or First Mennonite Church of Berne in Faye's memory, as a way to honor her generous and giving spirit.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Swiss Village in Berne, IN, for their dedicated and heartfelt care for Faye in her final days. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
