Gary Lanning, age 58, a resident of rural Portland, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his sister's home in Pike Township, Jay County following an extended illness.
Gary was born on November 26, 1954, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Robert "Bob" and Nola (Middleton) Lanning. He graduated from Portland High School in 1974. He was a self-employed contractor operating G&L Construction in Jay County for several years. Gary enjoyed flying his ultralight plane and skydiving. He also acted as Santa Clause in Jay and Randolph County for several years. He helped raise several children in his home. Gary attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland.

Geraldine Robbins (husband Wendell) - rural Portland, Indiana
Carol Limbert (husband Chris) - rural Portland, Indiana
1 brother: Larry Lanning - rural Portland, Indiana
4 grandchildren
Visitation for Gary Lanning will be held on Friday from 3-8 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland. Pastor Hugh Kelly will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
