Harold Hough, age 94, a resident of Redkey, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.

Harold was born on November 26, 1920, in Jay County, the son of Virgil and Eva (Money) Hough.  He graduated from Portland High School in 1939 and was a veteran of the Army Air Force serving during World War II.  Being a veteran, Harold enjoyed celebrating the 4 th of July.

Harold worked for Sheller Globe in Portland and Borg Warner in Muncie.  He and his wife owned and operated Hough’s Grocery Store in Redkey for several years.  He was known as “The Big City Farmer” and was known for his tomato’s and corn that he grew.  Harold enjoyed playing bingo, family time, playing horseshoes and traveling to Sault Ste Marie in Michigan. He was a member of the Portland Moose Lodge, Portland American Legion Post #211 and the D.A.V in Portland.

Harold married Lois Bentz on January 25, 1941 and she passed away on March 25, 2013.  They would have been married 74 years on January 25, 2015.

Survivors include:

3 daughters:  Carolyn Hinshaw – Portland, Indiana

Pam Hough – Portland, Indiana

Delee Affolder – Portland, Indiana

2 sons:  Larry Hough – Redkey, Indiana

Duane Hough (wife Janet) – Greenville, Ohio

Several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Darrel Borders will officiate and burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, south of Redkey.  The Portland American Legion Post #211of Portland will conduct military graveside rites.

Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Cancer Society.
