Helen Fisher, age 92, a resident of Portland, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.
Helen was born on April 16, 1922 in Jay County, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Welsch) Laux. She was one of eleven children. Helen married Leon Fisher and he preceded her in death. She worked at Jay Garment in Portland for several years. Helen and her husband founded Fisher Packing in 1945, owning and operating the business in Portland for several years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland. Other memberships include the Jay County Humane Society, Portland American Legion Auxiliary and the Rosary Society at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland.

1 son: John Fisher (wife Janice) – rural Portland, Indiana
4 daughters: Patty Lee (husband James) – Yorktown, Indiana
Martha Inman (husband Dale) – Winchester, Indiana
Ruth Davidson – Portland, Indiana
Cathy Klopfenstein (husband Ted) – Madison, Indiana
1 sister: Freda Muhlenkamp – Coldwater, Ohio
20 grandchildren, 53great grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Rose Laux and 1 son, James Fisher.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. A rosary service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Humane Society.
