Helen Irene Thayer, age 96, a resident of Portland, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at her home in Portland. She was a former resident of Richmond, Indiana.
Helen was born on August 10, 1918, in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of Victor and Stella (Maddy) Gilbert. She retired from Belden in Richmond as an Inspector after 41 years. Helen was a member of the Pershing United Methodist Church and Belden 25 year club. She married David Norman Thayer and he passed away on August 2, 1993.

Great-great nieces and nephews: Collin Kriegbaum, Dylan Lewis, Gretchen Elliott, Griffin Elliott and Zoey Smith
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing, Indiana.
Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Cancer Society.
