James E. “Jim” Harker, age 88, a resident of Dunkirk, passed away Saturday October 3, 2015 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
James was born in Portland, Indiana on October 3, 1927, the son of McKinley and Marie (Holly) Harker. He received an Honorable Discharge from the State Guard of Indiana and an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy after serving aboard the USS Iowa during World War II. He was a fireman with the Portland Fire Department and later worked and retired from Westinghouse Electric in Muncie, Indiana. James was a member of the Portland DAV, the Dunkirk VFW and the Dunkirk American Legion. In 1949 he married Wanda Cronkhite who passed away in 2001.

4 Daughters: Cuba Cassel (husband Rodney) – Portland, Indiana
Sue Pryor – Dunkirk, Indiana
Candice Norton – Dunkirk, Indiana
Linda Champ (husband Kenny) – Redkey, Indiana
17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral in Portland. Pastor Jason Rice will be officiating the service and burial will follow at the Center Cemetery, West of Portland.
Memorials may be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.
