Janet Downing

Janet Downing, age 73, a Pennville resident passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Persimmon Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Portland.  She was a member of the Pennville United Methodist Church.  She and her husband owned and operated Pennville Oil and Lumber in Pennville for many years.  She also worked at WalMart in Portland.  She was a member of the Pennville Fire Department Auxiliary, Pennville Eastern Star and the Pennville American Legion Auxiliary.

She was born August 27, 1941 in Muncie, Indiana to Fred and Jean (Kirk) Barton.  She was married December 31, 1970 to Joe Downing who survives.

Her beloved husband- Joe Downing, Portland, Indiana

Her former husband and father of her children:  Larry Teegarden – Portland, Indiana

1 Son- Chip Teegarden (wife- Michele),  Pennville, Indiana

2 Daughters- Lori Wymer (husband-Scott), Modoc, Indiana

Layna Byrge (husband-Dale), Dunkirk, Indiana

2 Step Sons- Jon Downing, Monterrey, California

David Downing, Stockton, California

1 Brother- Gary Barton (wife-Sandy), Muncie, Indiana

14 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren

Visitation will be held from 1-6 pm Sunday in the Pennville Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service for Janet will be held at 11am Monday in the Pennville Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home.  Pastor Adam Ridenour and Pastor Gary Phillips will officiate and burial will follow in the IOOF Twin Hills Cemetery in Pennville.
