John Elwood, Sr.
May 14, 1926 — May 10, 2017
John D. Elwood Sr. age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at his home in Portland. He was employed with Meadow Gold Dairy for 35 years and delivered in the Jay County area. He then worked for Vernon Schmidt Garage in Portland and enjoyed growing orchids in his retirement. He attended the Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland and was a member of the Ft. Wayne Orchid Society and a longtime member of the Portland Lions Club. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
John Elwood was born May 14, 1926 in Cato, New York the son of Homer and Edith (Mann) Elwood. He was married in 1944 to Mabel Taflinger and she passed away in 2000.

James "Jim Bob" Elwood (wife-Marcia), Louisville, Tennessee
Anthony Elwood (wife- Corinna), Portland, Indiana
2 Daughters- Dian Smith (husband-Donald), Brookville, Ohio
Cheryl Dixon (husband-Fred), Portland, Indiana
20 Grandchildren, 47 Great Grandchildren, 23 Great Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a son, William Elwood.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12-2 pm at Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Pastor Hugh Kelly officiating.
