John Charles Holly, age 100, a resident of rural Ridgeville, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Crown Pointe in Portland.
John was born April 18, 1918 in rural Portland, the son of Emerson and Mary Olive (Offhill) Holly. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945, during the signing of the treaty to end World War II. He retired from Astral Casket Company in Lynn in 2003 and farmed for many years in Randolph County. John was a member of the Ridgeville American Legion post #507, and attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Ridgeville.
John married Faye Lanning in 1942 she passed away on September 25, 2000
Survivors Include:
1 son: Allan Holly (wife Pam) – Ridgeville, Indiana
1 daughter: Joyce Outcalt (husband Dave) – Ridgeville, Indiana
1 brother: Leonard Holly – Muncie, Indiana
Brothers in law and sisters in law
Grandchildren including Angela Effing, Holly Taylor, and Tyler Holly and Great Grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm in the Williamson and Spencer funeral home in Portland
Funeral services will be held at 10am Wednesday in the Williamson and Spencer funeral home in Portland. Rev. Jonathan Edwards will officiate the service and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to State of the Heart Hospice.
