John Peden

John Peden, age 77, a resident of rural Portland, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at his home in rural Portland.

John was born June 27, 1949, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Harvey and Alice (Cooper) Peden. He graduated from New Haven High School and later earned a bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Accounting from San Diego State University. John served in the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam.

Following his military service, John built a successful career in international banking before sharing his knowledge as a professor at the State College of Florida.

John had a deep appreciation for art and poetry and found great joy in riding his motorcycle and traveling. Above all else, his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family, who were the center of his life and his greatest source of pride.

John married Lynda Platone on April 13, 2026.

2 grandchildren: Jack and Natalie

His siblings: Mike Peden (wife Mary) – Ft. Wayne, Indiana

Shawn Peden (wife Tammy) – Hoagland, Indiana

Beth LeMaster (husband Jeff) – Portland, Indiana

His step-siblings: Valerie, Beth Ann, Kevin and Rob

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 1-2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Military rites will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
