Joseph Glentzer

January 14, 1923 — September 29, 2014

Joseph “Joe” Albert Glentzer, age 91, a resident of rural Portland in Noble Township, Jay County passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.

Joe was born on January 14, 1923, in rural Bryant, Indiana, the son of Wilson and Abbie (Lee) Glentzer.  He graduated from Poling High School and entered the Army Air Corps during World War II.  Upon discharge in 1945, he became a farmer in Jay County.  He was a member of the West Walnut Street Church of Christ and a charter member of the Portland Morning Optimist Club.  Other memberships include the American Legion Post #211 of Portland and the FFA Hall of Fame.  Joe married Ethelyn Norris on March 12, 1949.

Survivors include:

His wife of 65 years:  Ethelyn Glentzer – rural Portland, Indiana

1 daughter:  Meg Habegger (husband Neil) – rural Portland, Indiana

2 grandsons:  Lee and Mark

3 sisters:  Nell Pensinger – La Porte, Indiana

Mary Newhouse – Bryant, Indiana

Norma Haffner – Muncie, Indiana

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland.  Pastor Gil Alicea will officiate the services.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed towards the West Walnut Street Church of Christ or The Portland Foundation.
