Joseph “Joe” Garringer, age 88, a resident of Portland, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.

Joe was born October 6, 1937, in Winchester, Indiana, the son of Lewis and Frances (Kaugher) Garringer. He worked at Anchor Hocking in Winchester. Joe married Wilda Dunmoyer in 1956 and she passed away in 1961. He later married Norma Stults on September 30, 1962 and she passed away on May 12, 2016.

His children: Scott Garringer (wife Elizabeth) – Lakewood Ranch, Florida

Terrie Roop (companion Samuel Crump) – Portland, Indiana

His siblings: Floyd, Jerry (deceased), Nancy, Sue and David

2 grandchildren, Ashley Garrifano and Joseph Garringer.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Roop.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12-2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Phil Jellison will officiate and burial will follow at Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
