Larry Evans

Larry Evans went home to be with his Lord on June 16, 2016.  He was born in Kennett, Missouri, on June 15, 1942 the son of Marvin Evans and Pearl (Young) Evans.  He is survived by his wife Louise of 54 years, two sons Mark Evans (wife Mia) of Portland, David Evans (wife Rhonda) of Portland, seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Larry received his BA from Ouachita University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, his Master of Divinity from Midwestern Theological Seminary in Kansas, Mo. And his Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary.

Larry served as pastor of several church in Missouri and Arkansas, and served in full-time evangelism for seven years before coming to Portland, Indiana to serve as pastor of the First Baptist Church.  He also pastored Vineyard Fellowship in Portland before retiring from the pastoral ministry.

The past few years, he and Louise were part of a wonderful fellowship of believers at the Community Christian Fellowship in Bryant, Indiana.

He and his wife moved to West Lafayette, Indiana to start a ministry to International Students at Purdue University.  Those years were the highlight of his ministry.

The last few years Larry has fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Death had its toll on Thursday morning, but do not FEAR, he knew the ONE who won the battle over death.

A celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Visitation will be held from 12 – 2 p.m. before the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed towards Family Life Care or Jay County Cancer Society
