Laura Gierhart, age 84, a former Portland resident passed away Tuesday September 2, 2014 in San Antonia Texas where she has lived the past 5 years. She worked at Jay Garment, East Elementary School and The Graphic Printing Co. in Portland.
Laura was born January 19, 1930 in Jay County the daughter of Orlie and Inez (Starr) Shawver. She was married June 29, 1958 to Robert Gierhart and he passed away October 29, 1978.
Survivors Include:
2 Sons- Dale Gierhart (wife-Angela), Avilla, Indiana
Dana Gierhart (wife-Michelle), Auburn, Indiana
2 Daughters- Denise Gierhart, San Antonio, Texas
Deann Gierhart, San Antonio, Texas
12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren
Preceded in death were 1 Brother- Merle Shawver, 3 Sisters- Sarah Ford, Dorthea Kelly, Lois Osborne and 2 Grandchildren
Visitation will be held from 1-2pm Friday in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Friday in the Williamson and Spencer funeral Home. Pastor Herb Hummel will officiate the services and burial will follow in the Twin Hills IOOF Cemetery in Pennville.
