Linda Louise Kennedy, age 84, a resident of Portland, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at her home.
Linda was born May 14, 1941, to William Guthrie and Nancy F. (Downs) Howard in Bardstown, Kentucky. She moved to Portland in June, 1946, where she lived with her father and step-mother, Clara (Steiner) Howard.
Linda married Thomas C. Kennedy on November 28, 1959. They had three daughters, Charlene Theurer (husband Roger), rural Jay County, Carol Kennedy, Portland and Christina Kennedy-Nixon – rural Jay County.
Linda retired from the Jay School Corporation, Crossroads Financial Credit Union and as City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Portland. She also worked at Jay Randolph Developmental Services, which she always considered a blessing. Throughout her life, she served her community in many ways, including membership in the Zion Lutheran Church of Portland, Kiwanis Club of Portland, The Women’s Giving Circle, and Gamma Nu Sorority. She also volunteered as a member of the Jay County Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband and daughters and two sisters, Nancy Daughtery (husband Bob), Louisville, Kentucky, Phyllis De-Smet Howard (husband Willy), Portland, and one brother, Bill Howard, Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by six granddaughters, one grandson, four great granddaughters and a great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Mandy Theurer.
Memorials may be made to the Mandy Theurer Memorial Endowment Fund at the Portland Foundation.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
