L. Jean Harris

December 10, 1922 — December 4, 2013

L. Jean Harris, age 90, a Winchester resident passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital in Winchester.  She had resided for 54 years in Deerfield, Indiana prior to moving to Winchester.  She provided a wonderful home for her husband, children, and grandchildren.  She was a loving and willing caregiver for several family members over the years.  Jean enjoyed cooking, collecting cookbooks, camping, church activities, and gospel music.  She volunteered at Jay County Hospital and St. Vincent Randolph Hospital for several years.  She was also a Gold Lady Volunteer with the Richmond State Hospital.  She was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” in Randolph County for her many years of dedicated service to the community.  Jean had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest.

She was a member of the Deerfield United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women.  She was a member of the Nu-Wa Home Demonstration Club in Ridgeville.

L. Jean Harris was born December 10, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Bragg) Steed.  She was married in 1941 to Charles J. Harris and he passed away in 2000.

Survivors Include:

1 Son- Neal Harris (wife-Carole), Redkey, Indiana

2 Daughters- Gale Medler, Ridgeville, Indiana

Linda Horner, Winchester, Indiana

10 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters

Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Friday at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Martin Wells will officiate the services and burial will follow in the Lawndale Cemetery west of Deerfield, Indiana.

The family would like to thank the staff at Randolph Nursing Home and St. Vincent Randolph Hospital for their wonderful care.
