Loren "Babe" Dorman

Loren “Babe” Dorman, age 95, a resident of Redkey, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at The Waters of Dunkirk.

Babe was born October 3, 1928, in Randolph County, Indiana, the son of William and Della (Myers) Dorman.  He married Wanda Philebaum on July 14, 1950 and she passed away on June 14, 2011.

Babe served with the Redkey Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and served as Chief of the department for 1 year.  He retired from Kerr Glass in Dunkirk.  Babe was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Portland and 50-year member of the Halfway Lodge in Redkey.

Babe was always adventurous and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, horseback riding, Euchre and working on and racing race cars.

Survivors include:

4 daughters:  Coni Miller (husband Jack) – Mitchell, Indiana

Linda Zeigler – Las Vegas, Nevada

Sharon Pyle (husband Stew) – Redkey, Indiana

Kathy Goodman (husband Terry) – Fort Worth, Texas

Grandchildren; Justin Dorman, Carrie Miller, Terry Goodman, Christopher Zeigler, Amy Campbell, Mayghan Pyle, Sebastian Pyle.

16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren

Sister-in-law:  Evelyn Philebaum – Winchester, Indiana

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Della Dorman, Grandson Jason Miller, Son-in-law Bob Zeigler, Brothers Donald “Jack” Dorman, Glen Dorman and Richard “Gene” Dorman, Brothers-in-law:  Jim DeVoss, Junior Philebaum and Norman Priest, Sisters-in-law:  Norma DeVoss and Gladys Priest.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12- 2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Pastor Joe Hines will officiate and burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey. Masonic services will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon.
