Marjorie Chapman

November 11, 1926 — April 22, 2014

Marjorie E. Chapman, age 87, a resident of rural Portland, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her home in rural Portland.

Marjorie was born on November 11, 1926, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Herman H. and Ruth P. (Clark) Griesinger. She married Clinton H. Chapman on August 8, 1949 and he passed away on April 29, 1985.

Marjorie graduated from Portland High School in 1944 and worked for the United States Navy at Arlington Farms in Washington D.C. during World War II. She later worked for Fort Recovery Industries for over 15 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Portland Zion Lutheran Church. Other memberships include E.L.C.A. Women of St. James Lutheran Church, Glad Hatters Chapter of the Red Hats, Psi Iota Xi , VFW Women’s Auxiliary in Salamonia, Bad Girls Club and Kitchenettes Band.

Survivors include:

1 daughter:    Rebecca Dann (husband William) – rural Portland, Indiana

2 sons:  James E. Chapman (wife Sarah) – rural Portland, Indiana

Thomas E. Chapman (wife Shanah) – Dunlap, Tennessee

12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Mark Strietelmeier will officiate and burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana.

Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Humane Society, Portland Zion Lutheran Church or State of the Heart Hospice.
