Marlene Nichols

Marlene Maryland Nichols, age 68, a resident of Portland, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at her home in Portland.

Marlene was born on October 18, 1946, in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of Harmon and Eileen (Gillette) Shaver.  She graduated from Portland High School in 1964 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from Ball State University.    She worked for CTS in Berne, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and Pizza Hut in Portland.  Marlene was a member of the Salamonia Church of Christ in Salamonia, Indiana.  Marlene married Robert Dexter Nichols on June 8, 1985.

Her husband:  Robert Dexter Nichols – Portland, Indiana

Her mother:  Eileen Shaver – Portland, Indiana

2 sons:  Jack Hardymon – Homosassa, Florida

John Hardymon – Franklinton, North Carolina

4 daughters:  Amanda May (husband Anthony) – Portland, Indiana

Angie Theurer (husband Kent) – Portland, Indiana

Dawn Ann Edwards – Redkey, Indiana

Tracy Post – Ansonia, Ohio

2 brother:  DeWayne Shaver (wife Sandy) – Portland, Indiana

David Shaver (wife Lise) – Portland, Indiana

3 sisters:  Helen Martin (husband Paul) – Portland, Indiana

Alena Brandenburg (husband Gill) – Warrenton, Virginia

Charlotte DeVoss (husband Tim) – Portland, Indiana

9 grandchildren

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m.  in the Salamonia Church of Christ in Salamonia, Indiana.  Pastor Bruce Phillips will officiate and burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed towards the Salamonia Church of Christ or Jay County Cancer Society.
