Mary A. Chase, age 90, a Portland resident, passed away on October 29, 2013 at her home in Portland .
Mary was born on November 11, 1922 in Pontiac, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Ella (Garber) Kinsinger. She graduated in 1946 at the top of her class with a BA from Roosevelt University in Chicago and earned an MA with honors in education from Ball State Teacher’s College in 1964. She was a farmer’s daughter, a minister’s wife, a prolific corresponder, an avid genealogist, and she loved to teach children and to travel. Mary was a dedicated schoolteacher who loved teaching young children. Mary was a member of the Jay County Historical Society. She married Richard Chase on June 29th, 1940. Reverent Richard N. Chase passed away on December 7, 1965. Mary was a long a time member of the Presbyterian Church and, later, became a member of the Mennonite Church in Berne.

Daniel E. Chase – Portland, Indiana
2 sisters: Catherine Bayston – Pontiac, IL
Margaret Dell – Treasure Island, Florida
1 granddaughter
Several nieces and nephews
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Portland.
