Matilde "Mati" Lopez

February 21, 1920 — October 4, 2017

Matilde “Mati” Lopez, age 97 a resident of Portland passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Persimmon Ridge Rehabilitation Center.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society.   She was a member of the Plant Hoe and Hope Garden Club and Music Club both in Portland.  Mati loved gardening, cooking, golfing and bowling.  She was a teacher by trade and moved to Portland in November of 1965.  She taught and tutored Spanish in Jay County for many years.

Matilde Lopez was born February 21, 1920 in Pinal De Amoles in the State of Queretaro, Mexico the daughter of Alejo and Amparo Perez.  She was married on July 19, 1949 to Dr. Alfonso Lopez and he passed away May 15, 2006.

Survivors Include:

2 Sons- Dr. Alfonso Lopez (wife-Mary), Cincinnati, Ohio

George Lopez (wife-Nancy), Portland, Indiana

1 Daughter- Lupe Lopez (husband-Greg Tilsley), Covington, Kentucky

2 Sisters- Vina and Racquel Herrera, Queretaro, Mexico

2 Grandsons- Alfonso and Tony Lopez, 1 Great Grandson-Lucas Lopez

Visitation will be held from 2-5pm on Sunday at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am Monday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland.  Father Bob Moran will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.

Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Portland Foundation Scholarship Fund.
