Pastor John Gibson

Pastor John Henry Gibson, age 82, a resident of Portland, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his home in Portland.

John was born on November 18, 1934, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Marion and Clara (Rines) Gibson.  He graduated from Portland High School and served 10 years in the Army National Guard.  He served in the ministry for over 44 years in many local churches. He attended the Portland Friends Church and was a member of the Portland Woodcarvers.  He married Kira Smith on October 5, 1985 and she survives.

2 daughters:  Ruby Nifong (husband Rick) – Portland, Indiana

Jeannie McMillan (husband Gary) – Portland, Indiana

1 son: Allen Smith (wife Cheryl) – Greenville, Ohio

1 brother:  Jim Gibson – Portland, Indiana

4 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons and 1 great-great grandson

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Williamson and Spencer funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Herb Hummel will officiate the services and burial will follow at Center Cemetery west of Portland.

Memorials may be directed towards the Portland Friends Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
