Paul Lake, age 95, a resident of Portland, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at his home in Portland.
Paul was born on May 6, 1931, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Fred and Nona (Martin) Lake. Paul was a 1949 graduate of Madison High School. Paul graduated from the International Data Processing Institute in 1964 and graduated from Indiana Vocational Technical College in 1977. Paul retired from the railroad and owned Phillips 66 gas stations in Portland and Geneva. Paul was a master chess player and loved audiobooks and bird watching. Paul was a member of the Hickory Grove Church. Paul married Sara Kontas on November 13, 1973, and she passed away on January 20, 2021.
Survivors include:
A son: Wayne Lake (wife Diana) – Portland, Indiana
A sister: Ruth Lake – Portland, Indiana
10 Grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, two sons, Mark and Fred Lake, two daughters, Leona Pyle and Pauline Jellison, 3 brothers, Wayne, Raymond, and Jerry Lake, and two sisters, Mary Lou Landers and Martha Lake.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.
