Phillip G. Lutz

October 20, 1939 — September 5, 2014

Phillip G. Lutz, age 74, passed away Friday September 5, 2014 at his home in Jackson Twp., Jay County.  He was a Marine Corp. veteran and served in the Vietnam war.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 211 in Portland.  He worked as a tool and die maker for Cummins in Columbus, Indiana and retired after 20 years as a general manager for Mutual of Omaha in Muncie.  He was a member of the World Class Chess Federation and was a 1974 Champion of his Division in Ocean City, Maryland.  He also had the privilege to play chess with Bobby Fischer.

Phillip Lutz was born October 20, 1939 in Columbus, Indiana the son of Phillip and Mary (Johnson) Lutz.  He was married May 4, 1991 to Jeanne Glassford.

Beloved wife- Jeanne Lutz, rural Bryant, Indiana

4 Sons- Ryan Ninde (wife- Nikki), Pennville, Indiana

3 Daughters- Stephanie Mann (husband-Shane), Portland, Indiana

Abby Clamme (husband-David), Portland, Indiana

Cynthia Jones (husband-Gerry)

2 Sisters- Phyllis Harding (husband-Dallas), Indianapolis, Indiana

Cinda Clark (husband-Rich), Indianapolis, Indiana

1 Brother- Vernon Shanks,  Seattle, Washington

9 Grandchildren

Phillip was preceded in death by a son- Tyler Lutz

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Wednesday at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

A Memorial Service will be at 7pm Wednesday  in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Hugh Kelley will officiate the services.  American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of the military rites at the service.
