RD (Raymond Douglas) Houser, age 86, a resident of rural Portland passed away on June 16, 2026 at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehab in Muncie, Indiana. RD was born on "April 23, 19 and 40" to Raymond L. Houser and Este (Teeple) Houser. He grew up helping his dad with farming and assembling machinery at their Case dealership at Antiville. He was a 1958 graduate of Bryant HS, and attended Huntington College and worked for Schacht Rubber Co for 2 years where he met Anita Losure whom he married in 1961 after her graduation.
He joined the Army in 1963 to avoid the draft in order to pick his choice of career paths. He served in Korea in '64 and was discharged in '66 from Ft Eustis, VA. He immediately used his GI bill to attend Parks College in Cahokia, IL for aircraft mechanics where he earned his A&P license .
He returned to the Bryant area obtained his pilot's license, bought his own airplane, and continued farming while working at CTS, as well as, being a substitute mail carrier. After CTS lay-off he worked at Speicher Brothers Ditching machines in Celina and finally retired in 2006 from Micromatic in Berne.
He and Anita raised their family at Bryant Wesleyan Church where he actively served. He helped build the "new" sanctuary, the parsonage, and lastly the Sunday school wing that replaced the original sancuary.
During the curing of the parsonage basement, it began raining in the evening, filling the plastic cover with water. He went home, took his children's sand bucket and stayed all night dipping the water out to save the concrete.
He was preceded in death, by his parents, and wife, Anita, of 61yr.
Surviving are his son, Don, and wife, Kyong and their two daughters: Monica and Dianne Houser of AZ.
Also, his daughter, Marie (Houser) McKinley, and husband Mark and their 4 children: Michael (Beste), Micaiah, Miriam and Mark, Jr.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Gravel Hill Cemetery west of Bryant.
Memorial may be directed to the Mission Aviation Fellowship.
