Richard “Dick” Hug, age 90, a resident of Portland, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Dick was born on December 24, 1935, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Alfred and Idris (Kissinger) Hug. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Throughout his working career, he was employed as a pressman at Gorney Winzeler in Bryan, Ohio, Oswalt Menu in Hartford City, and Centennial Packaging in Muncie.
Dick was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Portland American Legion Post #211. An avid fisherman, Dick enjoyed cheering on THE Ohio State University Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, and the Portland Rockets. On May 2, 1959, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Schimmel, and together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Brother: Neal Hug (wife Kathy) – Edgerton, Ohio
15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Idris Hug; his son, Scott Hug; grandson, Dustin; and siblings Clarence Hug, Bob Hug, Don Hug, Rosie Thiel, Art Hug and Duane Hug.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland. Burial will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio.
Memorials may be directed towards Masses at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the donor’s choice or by honoring Dick’s memory through acts of kindness and mercy.
